I enjoy playing golf. I’m no pro, but a good round of golf with friends makes for a good day. Like any human, some days are better than others on the golf course. Some days, the ball goes where I want it…down the fairway, on the green, in the hole… Other days, those little white dimples simply have a mind of their own! Those days, I can end up in the trees, the bunker, the rough, or the great beyond. (Don't laugh...you know what I’m talking about! You've been there too!)
The bad days at golf can really show a person’s character. It shows how we react to a “bad situation”. (Well, I mean how bad is it REALLY if we’re on the golf course, anyway?!?) But...a day of hacking, slicing, chopping, and duffing can be quite frustrating. It can also be *dangerous* for some of you folks!! (I’ve seen you out there! You’ve got some WILD shots yourself!)
I’ve heard of times where:
• Wild golf ball bonks another player • Sliced golf ball breaks window of personal home or club house
• Club goes flying (intentionally or unintentionally)
These things happen. However, you don’t want this to happen and create a personal liability event if you’re the one launching that ball or club. If a wild golf ball hits another player and creates a bruise, that’s one thing. But, if it strikes another player and does worse damage (say, hits them in the head), then you face personal liability claims and damages for medical bills (or more).
Before you hit the links...Ask yourself...does your homeowners’ personal liability coverage match up with your golf swing? As an insurance agent, I recommend that you look at your personal liability coverage to see if it would meet your needs. You may also consider whether umbrella coverage makes sense for you and your family. Umbrella coverage is also a good safety net for those families with, say, a swimming pool in their backyard.
I'm all for having a good time and enjoying the outdoors. Just make sure that your insurance policies match up with your activities just in case something happens. You'll have a better time with the peace of mind that insurance can provide. Who knows? Maybe it'll allow you to relax enough to straighten out that golf swing!
