Lesson from the Tractor

I have been busy on the weekends trying to clear our land (5 acres in central Texas).  It has cactus, cedar trees, and high weeds.  Just look at the pictures and see that we have an abundance of cactus!  It also is "blessed" with an abundance of rocks, making it impossible to mow.  Do you know why I'm out there every chance I get (in the 100+ degree weather)?  (Well, other than the fact that it's actually kinda fun to run the Bobcat!!)  It's mostly for my children.  I want to give them a safe yard to play...a safe place where they can run and jump and climb...a grassy yard where we can practice golf shots or soccer kicks...and not live in constant worry of snakes or "bad bugs".  High grass and cactus do not make for safe "kid-friendly environments".  It's going to be some work, but it's worth it in the end.

What I'm doing as I work on the tractor?  I'm minimizing our risk.  There's a definite risk that snakes or scorpions could be lurking in the tall weeds and under rocks.  By mowing and clearing brush, we minimize the risk of harm.

In a way, that's what insurance does...it helps families to minize risk.  We all want the best for our families....whether it be a family of two or a family of twelve.  Making sure that your insurance policies are set up appropropriately, such as proper coverage amounts, is a good way to minimize financial risk.  Life insurance is another excellent example of how families can reduce risk for their loved ones.
